NORTHWICH maintained their grip on top spot of the Miller Homes Division Three South thanks largely to ex-first teamers John Keegan and Andy Chubb, at Manchester on Saturday.

Keegan and Chubb bossed the first half, each scoring a try and Chubb adding a late penalty to his two conversions to give their team a commanding 17-0 half-time advantage.

It was also pleasing to see the recuperating Jamie Miritana completing a first half run out.

Northwich completely dominated the second half and further tries came from Keegan, Steve Taylor, Ross Walker and Steve Galbraithe. Chubb was unable to improve the four second-half tries.

Northwich 3rds went down 43-22 to Caldy in a well-contested match at Moss Farm.

On Saturday, Northwich travel to Vicars Cross to take on top- placed Chester (2.15pm).

Meanwhile, two Northwich Rugby Club youngsters are making their mark for Cheshire.

Flanker Philip Williams and scrum half Robin Houghton are both in the Cheshire Under 16s team and played their parts in the latest triumph, 29-5 against Cumbria.

Williams helped Cheshire to dominate in the forwards and Houghton came on as a sub to twice put in Jordan Kennedy, son of Sale Sharks owner Brian Kennedy, in for tries.
