WALES boss John Toshack believes Wrexham pair Chris Llewellyn and Steve Evans have let the team down just when they need them most.

The Dragons duo – who have both won a Wales call-up for the European Championship qualifiers later this month – are banned for the Racecourse club after needless sending offs.

And Toshack believes the pair have let down Wrexham boss Brian Carey and the rest of their team-mates by picking up suspensions at a crucial stage of the season.

Evans is midway through a five-match ban while Llewellyn, who was sent off for violent conduct against Bury last Friday, will miss four games in Wrexham’s battle against relegation to the Nationwide Conference.

And Toshack fears Wrexham, who will also be without Ryan Valentine for three games following his dismissal against Bury, could pay a heavy price.

He said: “Given the situation in which the club finds itself, you would probably expect a bit more from your experienced players and I’m sure the manager (Carey) and his other players are very disappointed.

“It’s a difficult time for a young manager who is just making his way in the job, although he seems to be doing and saying the right things, and I’m sure he feels particularly let down.

“The two lads who will be us next week know their bread and butter is with Wrexham.

“But to be fair, we’ve never had a problem with either of them when they have been with Wales. But I’m afraid I can see Wrexham suffering right until the end of the season because they seem to be drawing the games they may have won and losing the games they might have drawn.

“It looks as they though are going to have to fight until the end. I just hope that they are going to get out of it.”

The West Ham duo of James Collins and Danny Gabbidon have been called up, despite struggling with injury.
