A WREXHAM man has been jailed for three years following a daylight robbery in which he punched, kicked and head-butted his victim.

Steven Austin Thomas, 33, forced his victim to take his trousers off as he searched for drugs, but he also stole his mobile phone, tobacco, £2.50 in cash and a milk shake he had just bought from McDonalds.

The victim could not protect himself because his arm was in plaster.

Thomas admitted robbery on an earlier occasion, when the prosecution dropped the charge against his partner.

Tracey Marie Williams, 32, admitted a charge of assaulting the robbery victim by kicking him while he was on the ground.

She was jailed for 12 months following the incident at a public footpath close to Wrexham library on June 15.

Judge John Rogers QC, sitting at Mold Crown Court, said Thomas had approached the victim, who he knew, and asked him for money.

Des Parry, defending, said Thomas, who had previous convictions for 90 offences which were mainly dishonesty, had been involved in a drugs rehabilitation group while in custody and was doing his best to turn his life around.

He had been candid with a probation officer why he wanted money at the time.

Both defendants had led chaotic lifestyles.

Williams had written to the judge and been candid about what had happened to her in her life. She had an unattractive criminal record but had clearly played a lesser part in the incident.
