WREXHAM face a punishing schedule of four games in nine days either side of Easter after being told to play their outstanding League Two derby clash at Chester City on Wednesday, April 12.

The new date was agreed following a meeting involving representatives of the Deva Stadium club, the Football League, the Cheshire police and Cheshire county council, who rejected Wrexham's request to play on Tuesday, April 4.

Racecourse secretary Geraint Parry said: "It was felt that April 4 was too close to the scheduled meeting of the clubs at Wrexham on Sunday, March 26.

"We have done our best to co-operate at every step of this drawn-out procedure but we now find ourselves disadvantaged with a schedule over Easter of four games in just nine days - three of which are local derbies.

"With a squad that is already stretched by the restrictions imposed on us due to administration, it will be asking a considerable amount of the players but it is a challenge to which we are determined to rise to."

The marathon stint begins on Sunday April 9 with a home game against neighbours Shrewsbury Town.

Next up for Denis Smith's side are trips to Chester on the 12th and Stockport County on Easter Saturday, April 15.

Bristol Rovers visit the Racecourse 48 hours later on Bank Holiday Monday.
