DENIS Smith was left to rue his side's lack of a killer touch after Swansea stole the FAW Premier Cup away from Wrexham.

The Dragons, winners of the the trophy in five of the last seven seasons, looked as though they'd continue their stranglehold on the competition after Basque hitman Juan Ugarte gave them a 60th-minute lead.

Yet that strike was cancelled out by a Shaun Pejic own goal eight minutes later. And it was left to substitute Andy Robinson to deliver the winner that caps off a fine season for the South Walians, who have also won promotion to League One

Smith said: 'We've been playing well without getting the results and we need to finish teams off when we are on top.

'Perhaps it's a mental thing and the players need to get this season out of their system.'

Wrexham, lining up without captain Darren Ferguson missing with an ankle injury, did their best to silence the party atmosphere inside the ground in what was the last ever game to be played at the Vetch Field.

They started brightly with Ugarte heading wide from an Andy Holt set-piece and Matt Crowell blasting over.

Former Dragons striker and Swansea's top scorer Lee Trundle tried his luck 14 minutes in, but his shot went past Ben Foster's post.

Yet that effort failed to knock Smith's team out of their stride, and both Ugarte and Holt tested Swans stopper Willy Gueret.

But the keeper couldn't do anything to stop a Chris Llewellyn piledriver that went inches over the bar.

Yet for all their good work Wrexham could have been behind at the break, as Izzy Iriekpen screwed wide when well-placed from a Roberto Martinez corner, before Paul Connor headed over.

Ex-Wrexham trialist Robinson was introduced for Leon Britton from the restart and was immediately involved as Swansea threatened, although Foster was equal to a fierce effort from Connor.

The visitors' response was immediate, Llewellyn winning a corner when Gueret blocked his shot and the keeper was then well-placed to hold a Dennis Lawrence header.

Anderson rescued the home side with a 55th-minute goal-line clearance as Lawrence's header for once eluded the Swansea keeper.

And the goal their play merited came on the hour mark when a Crowell free-kick was helped on by Morgan, Lawrence displaying great skill to pull the ball back for Ugarte to clinically net his 25th of the season.

The strike kicked Swansea into life and Foster had to get down low to deny the eager Robinson.

But they didn't have to wait long to get back on level terms, as Trundle's cross was turned past his keeper by defender Pejic.

Wrexham then had the chance to go straight back in front but the otherwise impressive Morgan failed to direct another Holt set-piece.

Swansea went ahead with 14 minutes remaining through Robinson, who drove an unstoppable first-time shot past Foster.

With time running out, Wrexham had to take risks at the back and push forward and Gueret pulled off another fine save to thwart Llewellyn.

But there was no way back for the Dragons.
