WREXHAM’S bid to restore their Football League status began in earnest this week when they returned to pre-season training.

Brian Little’s revamped squad, on the back of a brief get together on Friday, undertook a double session at Colliers Park on Monday.

The club’s new signings were all in attendance, as were trialists David Ogilby and Drew Fahiya.

Dragons boss Little was in positive mood, confident he is building a team capable of winning promotion from the Blue Square Premier.

Little said: “I know it is difficult for fans to accept we’re in this division but what we’re trying to do is build a new side that is competitive and capable of winning football matches.

“Hopefully the club has gone as low as it can and this set of players and myself can kick-start the climb back up towards where it should be.

“We’ve attracted some good players but if we get the ball rolling and start moving in the right direction then we have everything in place to attract even more.

“All of the players coming in genuinely want to be part of the revival of this club.”

Centre-back Ogilby, 23, is a Northern Ireland B international over from Irish Premier League outfit Institute while striker Fahiya, 20, is up from the Welsh Premier League’s Port Talbot. Both are keen to follow in the footsteps of Nat Brown, who became Little’s sixth summer capture on Friday.

Like many of the new players arriving at the Racecourse, the 27-year-old former Lincoln and Huddersfield centre-back lists power and pace among his attributes.

Little, continuing to run the rule over other targets, said: “We’re definitely trying to add a bit of athleticism to the group. Nat, himself, is very mobile and has a lot of presence. We had one or two big lads at the back last season but we felt we lacked a bit of mobility.”

Wrexham’s sports scientist Andy O’Boyle has left for Coventry City.

Little said: “He’s very talented and we wish him well. He’s taught the lads some very good habits and hopefully they will take them on board.”

The ‘early bird’ season ticket offers have passed with Dragons secretary Geraint Parry reporting sales of well in excess of 600 by Tuesday. The club’s target is 1,200.

Mark Jones’ move to League One new boys Peterborough has been put on hold after the released Wales international midfielder was the victim of a freak accident.

The 23-year-old, whose final years at Wrexham were dogged by injury and loss of form, was playing with his young nephew when he suffered a fractured cheekbone after being hit by a baseball bat.
