WREXHAM boss Denis Smith was fuming last night after fans group WINS refused to fund the loan signing of keeper Mike Ingham.

The association - set up two years ago to raise money for squad-strengthening - have knocked back Smith's plea for assistance, despite the cash-crisis at the Racecourse.

Smith, who drafted in Ingham for broken arm victim Andy Dibble, said: "I don't make these requests for WINS money unless I believe it to be absolutely necessary and that the club needs it.

"Now I don't know where the money will come from, but I'll have to see whether any of the other supporters' groups can help.

"Their decision makes it very difficult for me to operate and, I've got to be honest, if WINS doesn't provide the funds I think they should hand it back to the individuals who gave it in the first place.

"If they have turned me down, as seems to be the case, then I would ask what the money is there for?"

WINS have previously backed Smith through its "Beer a Week" fund.
