A LECTURER at Yale College has had her hard work recognised by the Prime Minister.
Basic Skills Lecturer Gill Britten was invited to Downing Street in recognition of her outstanding work in the Wrexham community.
Gill, who has had a fantastic year, having won the Welsh and later National Part-Time Teacher of the Year award, rubbed shoulders with Tony Blair at a reception in 10 Downing Street last month.
Gill said: 'It was a wonderful surprise, and a fantastic end to a fantastic year.'
Gill teaches basic skills to adults and has seen many of her pupils go on to study IT, maths, creative writing and foundation courses to prepare them for university.
The award-winning lecturer also finds time to co-ordinate a family learning programme, run an English workshop and is involved in the Parent of Exceptional Children (SPEC) programme.
Tony Blair addressed the reception and the Secretary of State for Wales Peter Hain was at the reception and took time to talk to Gill.
