WREXHAM face a double-whammy from the Football League if the Racecourse club goes into administration tomorrow.

As well as the Dragons becoming the first side to be docked 10 points - plunging them to third-bottom in the table - regular cash payments from the League could also be withheld.

And the FA could even withhold the cash from tomorrow's televised FA Cup second round match with Scunthorpe United - including the £75,000 due from Sky Television - as a result of the club slipping into receivership.

"Because of the administration and insolvency policies adopted by the Football League, and to a lesser extent the FA, we have been given to understand the money we would normally receive automatically will be withheld until the end of the season," said Steve Williams of insolvency firm Begbies Traynor, who will run the club if a High Court ruling puts Wrexham into administration.

"It's a double-whammy because the last thing we need is to have the club's cashflow hampered in this way. "The FA money is likely to be paid once the club has been knocked out of the competition, but the League will hold their payments in reserve to ensure that the club fulfils its fixtures. "That's not to say they can't be persuaded otherwise and one of my first tasks on Friday will be to write to the Football League.

"We will ask them for a sympathetic consideration of the situation."
