THE A41 is to receive major improvements next week at Ellesmere Port, Childer Thornton and Backford.

One mile of the A41 is to be closed for three days – between Monday, June 24, and Wednesday, June 26 – for resurfacing work to be carried out. Diversions will be in place to notify drivers this week and will be operational during the works.

The closure is between Birkenhead Road, Backford from the M56 bridge to Backford Roundabout and includes the approach lanes to the Backford traffic signals.

During the closure a full programme of highways works will be carried out with carriageway channels cleaned, overhanging trees cut back, gullies cleared, blocked and broken gullies replaced, drainage investigation works carried out as well as re-lining the whole section of drainage channel.

Additional resurfacing will also be undertaken on Wednesday, June 26, on the A41 between St Paul’s Church and New School Road at Childer Thornton, mainly under two way traffic control but also some night works.

On Monday, July 1, there will be resurfacing works on the A41 at Ellesmere Port between The Paddock to Ascot Drive, again under two way temporary signals.

The last two dates may change depending on weather conditions.

Cllr Lynn Riley, executive member for localities, said: “Understandably there will be some delays and I hope people can bear with us whilst we improve the standard of the carriageway for drivers.

“The works have been programmed to run consecutively so that disruption to road users is kept to a minimum, however some delays may occur during the course of the work.

“As always the works are weather dependent and some changes to the timetable may take place if there is bad weather.”
