MOTORISTS are being reminded that they need to display a ticket in their windscreen when using the main town centre car park.

The car park, near to Asda and the market, is free for four hours but shoppers still need to get a ticket from the machine so that parking officers know their arrival time.

Charges for short stay parking at the main car park were abolished before Christmas to encourage people into the town.

Margaret Morris, the borough council’s parking services unit manager, said: “People need to be aware that they must still get a ticket from the machine to display in their window.

“By doing this parking officers will be able to see what time people have arrived in the car park and ensure they do not exceed the four hour limit.

“Motorists who fail to put a ticket in their window run the risk of receiving a fine.”
