DISABLED ultra-distance athlete Chris Moon MBE received a warm welcome from Post Office staff in Ellesmere Port when he took a short break from his 1,000 mile UK charity run.

To mark the first month-long Barnardo’s Believe in Children Month Appeal, Chris is undertaking the ultimate challenge by running an average of 36 miles a day for 30 days.

He started his journey in Edinburgh on September 1 and will finish in London at the end of the month, calling in at Barnardo’s projects, Post Office branches, Royal Mail and Parcelforce operational sites en route.

Chris made a brief pit-stop at Ellesmere Port Post Office at Asda supermarket last week when he met staff who have been busy raising funds for Barnardo’s, Royal Mail Group’s charity partner.

He said: “I’m really excited to be involved in this fund-raising campaign. Barnardo’s is a very important charity to me because it provides vital help and encouragement for disadvantaged children.

“I hope that by completing this challenge it will help in some way to provide a brighter future for many more children.”

In preparation for Chris’ visit, Asda raised £1,000 by raffling off a giant Winnie the Pooh, which was won by Maureen Bresnen.

She plans to donate the large soft toy to the Acorn Childrens Hospice in Birmingham where her son works.
