LLANGOLLEN now has its own Dial-a-Ride scheme thanks to the overwhelming generosity of Denbighshire County Council and the commitment of the members of the Rotary Club.

After registering for the service and paying an initial fee of £5, members of this rural community who are elderly or have health issues are able to use the specially adapted Fiat, which has full wheelchair access, and it will cost just a small percentage of what it would cost to use a conventional taxi and without waiting for buses.

The journey needs to be booked 24 hours in advance and one of the Rotary team will turn up to collect, deliver and return the client.

The venture would not have been possible without the partnership between Denbighshire Council and the Rotary Club,Chariots in Wrexham who were able to help and advise on how to set up such a service, based on the larger and longer running project they have in Wrexham.

President, Rev Charles Stallard said: “The motto of Rotary International in the British Isles is 'Service above Self' and this and ideal way to demonstrate our commitment to the community in which we live and that we seek to and are privileged to serve.”

For more information about the scheme or to register, people can visit the Tourist Information Centre in Llangollen or the Town Council Office in Parade Street or e-mail Rotarian Mike Connolly on mike@pastdue.co.uk.
