A RETIRED man is having trouble holding his trousers up.
Tom O’Donnell, 58, has lost 7st 8lb with Slimming World since joining Alex Rowley’s Ellesmere Port group in September 2006.
Tom, from Saughall in Chester, joined the group, which meets at the Salvation Army hall in Whitby Road, to support his daughter Amy.
She lost 2st 13lb, which encouraged her sister Angela to join before Christmas last year. Between them the trio have lost more than 11st.
Tom was advised to lose weight by doctors to take pressure of his joints.
He has suffered severe arthritis in his hips since the late 1990s and had his right hip replaced in 2002, followed by surgery on his left hip in 2003.
He said: “I am able to buy clothes in the high street stores now instead of shopping at the big man’s shops. I’m spoilt for choice!”
Gill Knight, assistant district manager of Slimming World, said: “There are more overweight and obese men than women. The good news is that men tend to lose weight faster than women.
“They have a higher muscle mass, which burns more energy, giving them a higher metabolic rate.
“Men are also generally more focused when they start on a healthy eating plan.”
