A DROP-IN centre for debt advice has opened in Whitby.
The Debt Advice Network officially launched its centre at 11 Chester Road on Monday, and on Saturday a fundraising event will be held to give the network a boost.
The Debt Advice Network was formed in 2008 to bridge the gap in the existing services already available for people who need help and advice with debt.
It began delivering its service from a caravan at the back of a house in Capenhurst, relying on volunteers prepared to work in cold, draughty, cramped conditions to provide advice.
Now it provides face-to-face advice in the home, usually within 72 hours of being asked, to anyone who needs help in dealing with debt issues.
The service follows up the meeting by providing realistic, affordable and sustainable debt solutions from which clients can choose which best suits them.
On Saturday a gala night at EA Technology Sports and Social Club, Capenhurst, featuring singer John Moran as Neil Diamond, band Out of Order, a raffle with a top prize of a week’s accommodation in Lanzarote, a disco and karaoke will raise cash for the network.
Tickets cost £2.
