WREXHAM manager Dean Saunders has confirmed he will be staying at the Racecourse next season.

After yesterday’s 2-0 Racecourse victory over Weymouth brought the curtain down on what has been a disappointing second half of the season, the Dragons boss said: “Once I made the decision to do the job next year I’m in for as penny, in for a pound,” he added.

“I have to do the job to the best of my ability as I did when I came to the club.

“Then I dropped everything in my life to put everything into the job and I’m more disappointed than anyone that we have not won promotion after getting ourselves into such a good position.

“But sometimes you learn more when you are losing and I know more about our weaknesses, both as a team and as a club.

“We have to build and all I can promise the supporters is that I will try my best and give it everything I’ve got.

“I have a good relationship with the men that own the club, particularly Geoff Moss, and the more time I spend here the more I like the club.

“I’m sorry that the club is in the state it is, but because of where we are there is a desperation running right through the town, the club, and everyone associated with it to get out of this league.

“We have tried a quick fix but every year it gets harder so I have my mind set now on collecting as many good players as I can get and persuade them to play in the Conference.”

Saunders said he would be seeking players with the right attitude.

“If you look a player in the eye you can normally tell whether they are coming just to see out their careers or whether they are going to roll their sleeves up and have a right go .”

One of next season’s new recruits will be current youth tam captain Kai Edwards who is expected to sign pro forms this week.

Given his senior debut yesterday as a second half substitute, the 18 year old defender said|: “I was delighted to be told I was coming on and hopefully that was the first of many appearances,” he said.

“I was nervous when I was jogging over to my position, which could not have been further away, but two or three minutes in, I felt fine.

“The gaffer told me to get forward when I could and to stop crosses and I thought I managed to do that.

“I’ll be looking to play right back or centre back next season and I’ll be working as hard as I can to get in the side.”
