Caersws 1 Welshpool 3

A GOAL in each half from Calvin Davies, his first a fine solo effort, earned Pool the derby spoils that saw them leapfrog their hosts in the table.

Caersws, hammered 7-1 at home by Carmarthen eight days earlier, could take positives from an improved performance.

“We didn’t deserve to lose but we’re conceding too many goals at the moments,” said manager Mickey Evans.

Davies put the visitors on course with a quality effort on 23 minutes when he lashed his angled 12-yard shot past keeper Andy Mulliner.

The home side’s efforts eventually paid off when they equalised on 68 minutes through Geraint Lewis who steered his low shot past McGuigan from 10 yards.

Lloyd Grist then hit the bar for the Bluebirds, but Welshpool, for whom Davies twice went close, were to have the final word with substitute Steve Rogers the provider on both occasions.

First, he was released down the right and pulled back his cross for fellow substitute George Hughes to curl his 14-yard shot past Mulliner.

Rogers was again the provider in the last minute when he won the ball on the left touchline before crossing into the box for Davies who lashed his shot into the net.

Pool chief Tommi Morgan felt his side just shaded the encounter.

He said: “They put us under pressure in the second half and maybe 3-1 flattered us, but I think we created as many chances as them,” he said.
