NORTHWICH was plunged into traffic chaos yesterday, Tuesday, after a cyclist was found lying unconscious on the A533 near Davenham bypass.

The 28-year-old man was found by police at 6.30am at Pickmill roundabout but it is uncertain why he came off his bike.

The male was taken to Leighton Hospital with serious head injuries and was described as being in a very poorly state.

The victim’s father was by his side at hospital when the Chronicle went to press.

Motorists and commuters suffered serious delays as a result of the incident.

The A533 at Bostock, which connects Northwich and Winsford, was closed and both carriageways of the A556 Davenham bypass were also shut.

It is not yet known whether the police are investigating a hit-and-run offence, an accident or a medical problem.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who has information to call Sgt Carl Bailey on 0845 458 0000.
