RIDING solo, Alan Kemp recorded his 14th success of the summer season after taking victory in the Brendan Chiu memorial road race.

Weaver Valley star Kemp, who was the club’s only entrant to the Bridgnorth event, could not catch overall winner Dave Cummins of Macclesfield.

But Kemp, in typical fashion, was the first over 60s rider home after an uphill sprint finish to the Shropshire event.

It came after two further victories for Kemp as he won at Oulton Park last Tuesday and also in the Tommy Simpson Memorial Road Race based at Simpson’s home town of Harworth, Yorkshire.

The latest round of the National 50-mile Time Trial Championships was moved to Jodrell Bank where Weaver Valley riders were involved.

From a field of 120 riders, Dave Fearon (two hours three minutes 11 secs) and Rob Kilby (2:10.18) finished 78th and 97th respectively.

In the 25-mile Warrington RC four-man time-trial, Dave McKay, Nic Butterworth, Jon Comboy and Richard Munroe registered a time of one hour four minutes, despite the quad suffering a spate of punctures.

Weaver Valley will be holding their club night on Wednesday with a 10-mile time trial at Byley.

A club spokesman said: “Newcomers are welcome to try their hand at the unpaced race against the clock, starting at 7pm.”
