AN employment law specialist says government plans to reduce red tape and limit the introduction of new legislation would be a welcome blessing for the area’s hundreds of small businesses if they come to fruition.
Solicitor-advocate Paul Bennett, who works for leading Wrexham law firm Gwilym Hughes & Partners, says:
“Wrexham and North Wales have a wealth of entrepreneurs and innovative small businesses whose contributions to the local economy have played a major part in the overall success of the region.
“But over the past decade they have been forced to suffer an ever-increasing burden of legislation - sometimes to the point where dealing with it has had to take priority over the core function of the business. This has left them in danger of taking their eye off the ball and losing the business.
“The whole situation has become dire and business owners are now in danger of breaking the law out of sheer ignorance, simply because they don’t have the time or the resources available to them to keep up to speed with legislation changes. Employment has become one of the most complex areas of law and staying compliant with it is essential as mistakes can be costly.”
