CREWE boss Dario Gradi was disappointed that simple mistakes cost them the game against Ipswich last week.

Although the Railwaymen were the clear underdogs for the Worthington Cup third-round fixture, Gradi's men could have caused an upset with a good performance.

But schoolboy errors cost dear as they crashed out 3-2.

Gradi said: 'We did well to make a game of it, but individual mistakes cost us. They were stupid elementary errors and you can't afford to give teams like Ipswich two goals.

'I thought Steve Foster and Dave Walton played well but were poor for the first two goals and it is difficult to come back from there.

'I thought our set-plays were good and Shaun's deliveries were excellent.

We had our moments and I've told the players that we nearly proved that we are a decent team, but you cannot afford to lose concentration because you will be punished at this level.

'If we continue to make mistakes the confidence will go because we won't be picking up points. I think we have some more work to do with another 20% to come from most of our players.

'It was good for Dave Brammer to get his first goal for the club.

He has got great stamina and did well against a good side.

'I moved Rodney to the wing and it gave us a bit more of an attacking line-up because we were chasing the game.

'Ipswich showed their class and passed the ball around very well. Their third goal came from a good passing move and they put out a decent side. George Burley left a few out but there were no kids out there and they take the competition seriously.'
