OULTON Park gave their Cheshire County League Premiership title hopes a welcome boost after putting Knutsford club Toft to the sword on Saturday.

Third-placed Park, now just 14 points behind leaders Bowdon, missed their chance to go top after losing to Oxton last weekend, but their 77-run victory at a wet Little Budworth has kept optimism high.

“We can definitely catch Bowdon,” said captain Nathan Dumelow. “The pressure is all on them because they are at the top. We can afford to gamble sometimes and go for that maximum 25 points.

“The team as a whole is playing really well. It was a pretty wet wicket on Saturday and I thought we did well to get as many runs as we did.”

Batting first Park posted 196 with Jonny Kettle top scoring with 35.

In reply, visiting Toft could only muster 119 with Dumelow leading the way with 4-46. Guy Emmett notched 3-24 and Robin Taylor took 3-41.

Oakmere suffered a heavy defeat on Saturday as the Overdale Lane club failed to register a single point from their County League Division Two clash with Sale.

Batting first, in-form Paul Guilford (54) made another half-century but none of his team-mates stayed at the crease long enough as Oakmere posted just 121.

In reply, hosts Sale reached their target with 123 and did not lose a wicket in the process.

Bottom of the league Oakmere now have ten games to save their Division Two status.
