AN UNBEATEN century from Danny Leech helped Oulton Park register their first victory of the Cheshire County League Premier season.

The former Weaverham High School batsman and Cheshire regular scored 103 not out in Park’s reply of 190-3.

Hosts Toft had been restricted by some tight bowling at their picturesque Booth Park ground by Park skipper Nathan Dumelow (4-42) and Chris Jones (4-28).

Dumelow said: “Although we played very well last week, it was a better team performance and good to get our first victory.

“Danny Leech is just one of those regular performers that can guarantee 40 or 50 runs every time he plays.

“Young Craig Williamson deserves praise as he bowled very well without taking a wicket.”

Oakmere registered their first points in the county league on Saturday but the Overdale Lane club could not avoid falling to their second consecutive defeat.

The hosts were put into bat by visiting Sale and an impressive 68 from skipper Ian Eaton, supported by Lyons with 30, helped Oakmere to a declared total of 161-9.

In their reply, Sale found the boundary on regular occasion to reach their target (162-2).

Oakmere travel to Birkenhead Park (1pm) this Saturday.

Oulton Park duo Leech and Dumelow featured in Cheshire’s 18-run victory over Cumberland on Sunday in the Minor Counties Trophy.
