NORTHWICH bounced back from last week’s drubbing in Meller Braggins League Division One with a winning draw at Congleton on Saturday.

Batting first the Moss Farm outfit made 158-9 thanks mainly to Matthew Jamieson’s 50 and skipper Jon O’Sullivan’s 35.

In reply the Bears were heading for victory but five wickets from Jamieson helped stall their progress, and they fell just short on 156-8. This Saturday Northwich host Alvanley (1.30pm).

Davenham were forced to hold on for a share of the points at Mere despite having bowled out the hosts for 132.

In reply, the Butcher’s Stile club made just 117-9 and claimed eight points for their efforts. This Saturday, Davenham host Barrow (1.30pm).

Also in Division One, Winnington Park’s winless start to the season continued at Alvanley on Saturday.

Electing to bat first, Park made just 114-9 (Phil Amatiello 37) which, on a decent batting track, was not enough to give their bowlers any hope.

Alvanley eased to victory at 118-2. Winnington look to bounce back when they host Ashley (1.30pm).

In Division Two, Barnton and Winsford provided a thrilling encounter at Knight’s Grange with visiting Barnton claiming a famous victory.

Choosing to bat first, the Broomsedge side rode their luck at times with six catching opportunities being dropped and made 145-5 (Neil Langham 26no, Dave Tierney 2-33).

In reply, Tierney hit 52 and 20 from Gary Sergeant put the hosts within five runs of victory but it was not to be as Barnton claimed the last man and victory with the score on 142 all out.

This Saturday, Winsford visit Over Peover while Barnton host Weaverham (both 1.30pm) who have moved up to fourth in the table following another impressive victory.

The Russetts hosted Bowdon Vale at Wallerscote Road and after surprisingly electing to bat first, Vale were skittled out for just 97 (Alan Bell 3-16, Rob McMillan 3-30).

In reply, Dave Ashley smashed 57no as the hosts strolled to victory at 98-2.

In the Cheshire Alliance, Matt Shinkfield’s figures of 5-52 were in vain as Hartford lost at Disley.

The hosts made 155-5 but Hartford could not get going and were all out for 84. This Saturday they host Appleton (2pm).
