YOUNG and old combined to great effect as Marchwiel & Wrexham 2nds maintained their flying start to Division Three on Saturday.

Rookie captain Owen Ward (50) and veteran Paul Ankers (46no) fired Marchwiel to 161-3 at Denbigh 2nds, who then fell 50 runs short on 111-6 (Chris Hemmings 2-29).

Castell Alun are also among the early pacesetters after they too made it two wins from two at Llanrwst 2nds, who set 124-6 and then could not prevent Alun from reaching 128-6.

Gwersyllt Park were five-wicket winners at home to Buckley, who collapsed for 56 before Park posted 57-5.

Brymbo 3rds broke their duck on Sunday at home to Hawarden Park 2nds, who got as far as 150-8 (Edward Filer 4-30) in reply to 173-8, an innings in which fantastic Filer (75) and Dave Croasdale (39) did the damage.

Llay Welfare 2nds got their Division Four campaign up and running on Saturday with a 50-run success at home to Mold 2nds.

The Division Five champions were bowled out for just 96 (Steve Partington 28, Dave Jones 23), but they responded well to snaffle Mold up for 46 (Partington 4-6).

There was derby joy for Division Five favourites Gresford 2nds as they got under way with a 34-run victory at Chirk 2nds.

The Clappers Lane outfit put on 190-9 (Steve Griffin 50, Ian Weaver 47) before Andy Thomas (2-11) and Co ensured Chirk could get no further than 156-4.
