LLAY Welfare 2nds crashed out of the Division Four promotion places after they lost their top-of-the-table clash at Mold 2nds on Saturday.
The on-fire hosts eased to 77-1 after limiting shell-shocked Llay to 75-9 (Daniel Parry 18).
Gresford 2nds pulled clear at the top of Division Five with a three-wicket derby victory at home to Chirk 2nds.
The pacesetters were made to work hard to reach 144-7 (Steve Griffin 59; Sean Jones 3-22, Mark Roberts 3-23) after Chirk cracked 143-9 (Jones 59no; J Bunkell 3-17).
Llangollen 2nds shot up to second in Division Six with a nine-wicket cruise at Bala 2nds.
Gareth Austin’s young guns made it to 27 for the loss of just one wicket after they ripped apart Bala for 26.
Castell Alun 2nds were on the end of a seven-wicket beating at Ruthin 2nds, who needed less than 12 overs to reach 42-3 having skittled Alun for 40.
Llangollen’s first team, meanwhile, have withdrawn from the league after admitting they would be unable to consistently field a side strong enough to compete in Division One.
The league has confirmed that Llangollen’s second string will continue to operate in Division Six, however, on the basis they “will not select any player who has been a regular representative of their first XI, save for away fixtures which, due to transport issues because of the age of the team in general, may necessitate senior players to travel.”
