SUPER spin king Richard Watkins turned the game in favour of Barnton as they took maximum points from their home clash with Kingsley.

Watkins’ 6-30 stalled the Meller Braggins League Division Two visitors at Townfield Lane, who had been cruising early on in their innings.

Batting first, Barnton made 161 all out after Mike Cross hit 47 with Watkins also weighing in with an important 35.

Skipper Simon Hancock was delighted with the win and said: “It was a good competitive game. We dominated early on but Kinglsey bowled very well and took wickets regularly.

“They fancied their chances and at 100-1 they were in full control. The introduction of Richard Watkins changed the game. It was a good win.”

This Saturday, Barnton visit Winsford (1.30pm), who claimed maximum points themselves from a thrilling encounter at Bowdon Vale.

Batting first, hosts Vale could only muster 79 all out but in reply Winsford made difficult work of it reaching 81 with just one wicket standing.

Rob McMillan scored his second successive half-century as Weaverham earned a winning draw from their visit to Runcorn.

His knock of 54, supported by Dave Ashley (37) and Jamie Allen (27), helped the Russetts reach 180-7.

In reply the hosts were made to hold on and that they did, reaching 146-7. Jamie Ollier was the pick of the Weaverham bowlers taking 4-25. This Saturday, Weaverham host Bowdon Vale (1.30pm).

In Division One, Winnington Park narrowly missed out on victory and settled for a losing draw at the Recreation Ground.

Chasing 175-6 (Rob Begbie 3-30), Park reached 169-9 with David Hine to the fore striking 80. This Saturday, Park visit Alvanley (1.30pm).

Northwich had a day to forget at Moss Farm, losing by nine wickets to Malpas.

Batting first, the hosts were skittled out for just 41 and were only able to uproute one visiting batmen as Malpas made 43-1.

This Saturday, Northwich visit Congleton (1.30pm).

In a low-scoring affair, Davenham managed just 82 all out in reply to Ashley’s 108. Davenham visit Mere on Saturday.

In the Cheshire Alliance, home side Hartfordtasted victory after they declared on 175-5 against Chelford with Matt Shinkfield scoring 61. Shinkfield then took 3-21 as the visitors were bowled out for 126. visit Disley this Saturday (2pm).
