A WREXHAM man has completed the London Marathon in memory of a close friend who died from cancer.

Kevin Todd, 28, completed the 26.2 miles with fiancée Jane Entwistle in three hours and 46 minutes to raise money for World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF).

He ran in memory of Jonathan Ratcliffe, who died of bowel cancer aged just 28.

Kevin, who works as a structural technician, said: “We all called Jonathan ‘Rattie’ and had been friends since primary school. He was always superfit, he loved sport, and was always full of so much energy.

“That’s why it was such a huge shock when he was diagnosed. The disease went undetected for quite some time due to him being so fit but by the time the doctors found it, it was too late.

“The doctors did everything they could and Rattie being Rattie fought the terrible disease until the very end. Sadly he died last June, just over a week after his 28th birthday.”

Jane competed the race in four hours 41 minutes, despite suffering cramp at about the 19th mile.

The couple have already raised £3,000. To sponsor them, visit www.wcrf-uk.org/sponsor.
