A darts match held at the Westminster Park Community Centre has raised a further £775 for the Haematology and Oncology Charitable Fund at the Countess of Chester Hospital in memory of Fred Wright, a long standing member of the centre.

Fred was also a former treasurer and member of the darts team. More than £2,200 has already been donated in Fred’s memory.

His widow Carol said: “I have been really touched by all the effort, hard work and contributions made by so many people, especially Richard Argyle, to ensure the event was such a success and I think to have raised £3,000 in Fred’s memory demonstrates what high regard he was held in by all those who knew him.

“During Fred’s treatment the Countess staff presented a highly professional, caring approach and nothing was too much trouble for them. They showed my husband the utmost respect and dignity during his illness and for this I am extremely grateful. A great team spirit exists amongst all the staff on the unit and they work together with the aim of providing exceptional patient care.”

The Fred Wright Trophy was won this year by Aaron Argyle, from Wrexham, who said: “The competition was a fitting tribute to Fred and I was very pleased to be the first winner of what we now hope will become a regular annual event at the Westminster Park Community Centre.”
