MID-CHESHIRE College’s Hartford Campus is to be given a £42 million facelift and work could begin next summer, subject to planning permission.

The 1950s building will be pulled down and reconstructed in four phases over a four year period.

The College is in the final stages of building a new Art and Design facility, costing over £3m. The current art facility will then be knocked down to make way for a new engineering block, this will be then be followed by a series of major projects to develop state-of-the-art facilities for vocational areas such as Technology, Sport, Performing Arts, Science, Beauty and Catering.

John Reilly, College Principal said: “Our current building is adequate but uninspiring. We’re a grade one outstanding college and need a grade one outstanding building.”

“We feel it’s now time to create new, world-class facilities to match the excellence we have achieved in the classroom and in the workshop.”

Funding for the project will come from the Learning and Skills Council, the College’s own reserves and a loan.

Mid-Cheshire College is also developing a new £9.5m facility in Winsford.

Mr Reilly said: “We feel it is now the time to build two brand new colleges in Hartford and Winsford.

“With the support of partners like the Learning and Skills Council and the Northwest Development Agency we intend to invest more than £50milion to create facilities that will be the envy of the North West.”
