PARISH councillors raised concerns when approval was sought to retain a low-pressure gas supply serving part of a caravan park.
The retrospective application was put forward by Cam Gas at 2 Cross House, Ashwood Lane, Wervin.
The storage tank, set in rising ground, had replaced two smaller tanks, planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council were told. It served two caravans.
The application had been revised to allow the delivery tanker to use a private access when making deliveries, rather than parking on the lane and to include more comprehensive landscaping.
Little Stanney and District Parish Council said it was concerned about the tank being retained at its present location due to its nature and its proximity to Ashwood Lane.
Councillors were also worried about inconvenience on the narrow lane while the previous tanks were being filled.
The gas storage would be an unsightly feature in a visually prominent location, landscape specialists at the borough council believed. They were satisfied, however, when more detailed information on proposed landscaping was provided.
The highway officer was also concerned as the tank had ‘little protection’ and was close to the lane. He also referred to the tanker obstructing the road.
Planners pointed out this had been dealt with in the revised application and the highway officer confirmed the new arrangement was acceptable subject to the removal of steps leading up to the storage.
Given the more comprehensive landscaping proposed, the application would be acceptable, planners believed. The tank would not be detrimental to the landscape or to the amenity of neighbours or highway safety.
Permission was agreed.
