THE main road through Elton is now glowing with Christmas cheer – thanks to Cheshire West and Chester councillor Graham Heatley.

The Elton councillor has paid for the installation of 13 light garlands wrapped around lampposts in Ince Lane, via his own member’s budget.

He said: “Local people were telling me how Helsby and Frodsham had their own lights unlike Elton which had none.

“Since they were switched on people have told me that it has brightened up the village and I am extremely pleased with the result. It is great to create some Christmas cheer!”

Cllr Heatley added: “I am committed to funding the lights for the whole of my term of office.”

Member’s budget grants of £10,000 are allocated to each councillor at the beginning of each financial year and must be used within a ward for community benefit.

Any community group, organisation or individual can apply to their local councillor for aid with funding for a project. Grants must be in excess of £250.
