CHESHIRE West and Chester Council has won a gold medal at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.

The 7x4m display is based on Chester Zoo’s Ark logo and has won one of only three golds in the RHS Ball/Colegrave National Flower Bed Competition.

The flower bed containing marigolds, begonias and lobelia was created over a three-day period by 11 staff from across the Streetscene service.

“This award is truly wonderful news - my admiration goes to all the team,” said environment executive member Cllr Neil Ritchie.

“It takes a rare combination of flair and skill to win gold and this is a landmark achievement for everyone involved.

“The planting took place over a very tense three days in sometimes horrendous windy and wet conditions in order to ensure that the display was ready for judging.

“The team’s tenacity, skill, commitment and expertise shone through on the day and they should be justly proud of their magnificent achievement.”
