A CAMPAIGNER says the outgoing borough council could leave a lasting legacy by choosing Rivacre Valley as the home for the town’s new leisure centre.

Nigel Hunt believes the picturesque location would be the perfect setting for a replacement for the crumbling EPIC complex.

The war veteran, who served in Iraq with the Territorial Army, wants to see the new facility based around an outdoor swimming pool and have associated boating and fishing facilities.

It would hark back to the days when the valley housed a popular outdoor pool, which was eventually bulldozed in the 1980s to be replaced by the EPIC.

Mr Hunt says people who have collected names in support of the proposal need to return them to him by November 26 so he can hand the completed petition to council leader Justin Madders at the end of the month, possibly at Rivacre Valley.

He said: “this is a golden opportunity for the outgoing council to leave a legacy that they will be remembered for with the voters of the district.”

If you have collected names in support of the campaign send them to 2 Alvanley Road, Great Sutton, CH66 3LA.
