THIS year’s Holocaust Memorial Day in Ellesmere Port and Neston promises to be a moving event with exhibits and testimonies from people affected by atrocities around the world.

As well as remembering the events of World War II, more recent genocides like those in Rwanda, Bosnia and Cambodia will be the focus of displays in Ellesmere Port Civic Hall next Monday.

The Cheshire-wide event is being hosted by the borough’s mayor Cllr Ted Lloyd, who is hoping to involve as many community groups and local people as possible.

It will be a day of reflection and commemoration, with displays, presentations and quiet, contemplation areas for people to light candles and reflect on the stories being told through the exhibition.

Cllr Lloyd said: “It promises to be a fascinating and informative event, with contributions from local schools and individuals. There will be plenty of food for thought and we hope as many people as possible come along.

“It's not too late to get involved in Holocaust Memorial Day. If you have any personal experiences or memories relating to holocaust, please get in touch as we'd love to hear your thoughts and feelings and include them in the exhibition.”

The exhibition will be at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall between 2 and 4pm. It will also be open between 11am and 3pm from January 29-February 1.
