WREXHAM Council has given its full backing to its first Modern Apprenticeship Programme, following a submission from Wrexham ITeC.

Starting in September, 20 school leavers will have the opportunity to pursue a three-year NVQ Level III Modern Apprenticeship in Using Information Technology.

In addition, they will gain experience and a valuable insight into the workings of local government and Wrexham Council itself.

It is expected opportunities to work in the council will be made available for apprentices.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Alun Jenkins, said: 'The value of training can never be underestimated and a programme such as this will benefit all concerned.

'These apprentices will have the potential to make a positive contribution to the future growth, development and prosperity of Wrexham County Borough. This is a strong signal being sent out, showing the Council is committed to developing the youth of the area.'
