WREXHAM'S Trinidad international Carlos Edwards was in a philosophical mood following his side's 0-0 home draw with Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday.

Edwards, still struggling to regain his match-fitness following a lengthy spell out through injury, said Danny Wilson's side had achieved their aim of frustrating the Dragons.

"We did our best and tried to get the goal which would have won the game, but unfortunately it wasn't to be," he said.

"We have to settle for a point and try to bounce back again in the next match. I felt they came for a draw and they frustrated us, but we kept a clean sheet and we are still in there fighting to avoid relegation.

"The chances we had didn't really fall for us today, although Hector (Sam) went close at the end. But it was just one of those days."

Racecourse boss Denis Smith, who had criticised his side's perfomance in the midweek 2-2 draw with Colchester, was in a more forgiving mood on Saturday evening.

"I thought I could not ask any more of the players," he said.. "They've worked hard but the opposition came to make it difficult for us and tried to catch us on the break.

"Their plan worked and we needed a break. Andy Holt should have gone down for a penalty in the first half instead of staying on his feet because that might have changed the game.

"I was expecting to get one win out of the two home games we've had this week, but on Tuesday we didn't deserve it. Today it could have gone our way, but we needed a break early on."

The Dragons boss maintained his team were good enough to fight their way out of the League One relegation zone.

"There's always doom and gloom merchants, that's why they enjoy coming to football because you can guarantee that sooner or later they will have something to moan about," he added..

"You have to accept that supporters pay their money and they have every right to have a go. But I don't believe in doom and gloom. I wake up in the morning and think I'm lucky to be breathing.

"So I won't criticise the players for what they've done today. I don't think they deserved to be criticised for today's performance.

"I only had eight players missing today so I went out in a very positive frame of mind. I thought it was a decent starting line-up and I was expecting a good performance, but you have to remember MK Dons won 4-1 at Bradford in their last away game, so they are improving."

On Wrexham's plight he said: "No-one knows how many points we need to stay up. I can guarantee if we get 50 points we'll be out of trouble, but it might take a lot less.

"If we get relegated I'll get the blame, it won't be anything to do with the Football League or what's been happening off the field.

"There are a lot of people who think I'm doing a decent job and there will always be people around who think someone else can do it better. But that's my business and I live with that."
