NORTHWICH Vics will soon be rid of Mike Connett, after his company Beaconet was wound up at a High Court hearing this morning.

Beaconet, who had been Vics’ landlord since Connett took over the club in December 2004, was liquidated after a petition was issued by Bank of Scotland over a £60,000 debt.

It means all ties will be severed between Vics and the club’s former chairman, a deeply unpopular figure with the majority of supporters.

A winding up petition against Vics was also due to be heard today over an unpaid tax bill inherited from Connett, but the case was adjourned to allow owner Jim Rushe to complete a deal to buy the Marston’s Arena.

A £1.5m bid has been accepted by receivers Deloitte Touche, who seized the stadium from Beaconet in October to pay off debts totalling more than £1m.
