BURGLARS tricked their way into the home of a blind 91-year-old woman and stole her cash.

The thieves struck at about 3pm on Saturday when the pensioner answered a knock on the back door of her Rossmore Road East home.

Detective Sergeant Simon Roberts, of Cheshire Police, says to target a blind elderly woman is despicable and he wants anyone with any information to come forward.

He said: 'The first offender gained access to this lady's home by telling her he was from the borough council. She allowed him into her kitchen where he turned on all the taps.

'As she stood by the sink he went to the front door and let one, and quite probably two, other offenders into the house.

'While the first offender stayed with the lady in her kitchen and kept her talking the others searched her home and stole a quantity of cash.'

He added: 'We want to hear from anyone who was in the area of Rossmore Road East at around 3pm. Did you see anyone suspicious hanging around the area?

Or did you see a number of men leaving a property in that road? Perhaps someone even heard these men discussing the crime.

'These thieves target pensioners in particular. Never, ever allow anyone into your home without being absolutely sure who they are. Always check their identities and if in any doubt, ring the police.'
