BUSINESS leaders frustrated by Wirral Council are to form a private company in a bid to boost development in the borough.

The move has been sparked by fears the local authority is failing to exploit events such as the Open Golf Championship's return to Hoylake.

Wirral Chamber of Commerce has now put forward plans to set up Wirral Development Company.

Chamber president George Allcock said: "Wirral is a marvellous place to live, but not much is happening development-wise.

"There seems to be an attitude that if nothing gets done there is nothing to complain about but risks need to be taken."

It is hoped the company will be run in partnership with the council, North West Development Agency and the Local Strategic Partnership, but will be led by the private sector.
