A COMMUNITY group formed to maintain Ellesmere Port’s twinning links with the German town of Reutlingen has paid a Christmas visit.

Representatives Joan and Keith Butcher and Toni Cioma made the three-day trip this month.

The trio took to the festive market Weihnachtsmarket.

Joan and Keith travelled 1,300km by car and ferry from Ellesmere Port to Hull, Rotterdam then through Belgium.

Cheshire West and Chester Council decided to sever formal links with the town’s partner last year but the authority provided a £2,000 grant to the group to maintain the tradition, which began in 1966.
