YOUNG people from Ellesmere Port with a dream of joining the army are being offered a helping hand by West Cheshire College.
It has joined forces with the Army to provide the Further Education Bursary Scheme which offers college learners aged between 16 and 23 a cash boost while they study vocational courses with a view to joining up at the end of it.
The bursary covers a broad range of courses including health, public service, sport, care, engineering, manufacturing, construction, ICT and business.
It gives each student a £1,000 grant for each year they study at college plus a £1,000 bonus once they have completed Army basic training.
Public services and sports teacher Paul Welsh said: “As well as supporting students financially, people accepted as Army bursars are also offered career support including work experience and education resources.
“It’s a great programme which we are delighted to support because it not only offers financial incentives but also provides and tangible and worthwhile career route.”
