CAERNARFON profited from their sparse quota of chances to bank the three points as hosts Llangefni wasted a whole series of openings.

Mark Thomas stole in at the far post to head the Canaries’ in front on 16 minutes from James Thomas’s deep right wing free-kick.

And then Bobby Jones applied a clever back heel at the near post to convert a low cross from Tim Ojapah, also from the right, on 33 minutes.

In between, Llangefni replied through Kevin Lloyd, nodding in Darren Thomas’ cross.

Otherwise, while Steve O’Shaughnessy’s Caernarfon looked composed but unexciting, Llangefni were inventive in their approach play but wayward near the target.

Lloyd dragged a shot wide, with only keeper Vinnie Whelan to beat, and then he booted over from just a few yards.

Dylan Owen, Chris Jones and Cerwyn Roberts were other home players to commit near misses, while late on Lloyd again wasted a glorious opening, as the league newcomers remained pointless.
