BANKING the points was what really mattered claimed a relieved Caernarfon manager Steve O’Shaughness after his team ended their seven match barren spell, much to the delight of the club’s long-suffering fans.

“We should have scored a lot more goals and while it would have been better to have won 2-0 and to have kept our first clean sheet, securing the three points was vital,” he said.

The Canaries got the goals that mattered in the first half through Paul Addo from 20 yards and John Rowley from closer range.

Both were set up by James Thomas, the first coming from a ninth minute free kick which was only partially cleared to Addo.

And Thomas picked out the pass that enabled Rowley to double the advantage in the 36th minute.

Carmarthen, who had previously done well on their outings to Caernarfon, registering three consecutive wins, were always second-best this time out.

Apart from his goal Addo proved a real handful and was twice denied by goal-line clearances to say nothing of spurning other decent chances.

A goal from Carmarthen substitute Danny Thomas in the 75th minute sparked a furious finale.

Caernarfon were put under siege and ‘keeper Craig Vernon was called on to make some important saves and he was grateful to substitute Teddy Whelan for a goal-line clearance.

O’Shaughnessy said: “Things became a bit scary towards the end, when they put us under pressure, but overall we played well and fully deserved the win.”
