STUDENT Alena Johnson’s success at West Cheshire College has secured her future at university studying fashion design.

Alena, 31, originally from the Czech Republic, was determined to break into fashion design but needed the right qualifications to win a coveted place at John Moores University, Liverpool.

And West Cheshire College’s City and Guilds Diploma in fashion design, based in the Ellesmere Port campus, proved just the route she needed to realise her dreams.

Alena, who recently moved from Chester to Liverpool ready for the new term, said: “The course at West Cheshire College helped me develop my skills and techniques so I could go on to university.

“I definitely want a career in fashion and my ultimate dream is to have my own design studio.”

Alena’s final year collection, a mix of designs and fabrics based on the Edwardian era, went on display at Heswall Library and wowed visitors who were amazed by her creative use of colours and textures.

Lecturer Peter Foster said: “Alena is a very gifted student who is determined to succeed. We are thrilled she won the university place she deserves.”
