DAREDEVIL knife-jugglers are hoping to show off their skills on the circus stage.
Mike Henderson and Jade Davies of Penycae have auditioned after responding to an advert appealing for circus performers by Blackpool Tower Circus.
The pair juggle knives and do amazing balancing acts and have worked together for two years.
Mike said: 'I have been knife-juggling as a hobby for 35 years. I would perform at functions and shows and people would ask if I was a member of a circus.'
In fact Mike works at Plas Madoc Leisure Centre and trains with 15-year-old Jade every day.
He added: 'I got into it initially for fitness reasons. I met a retired old man at the centre who told me he juggled knives. I was interested and started learning the craft.
'Balancing and juggling require a certain amount of physical fitness and I found I enjoyed it.
'As I got better I started making a little money here and there. But my dream has always been to perform in a circus ring.
'Now I have the opportunity, with Jade, to realise that dream at the best circus in the world.'
Mike practices for one-and-a-half hours every day to keep his eye in.
He added: 'If you slack in practise it could end in tragedy. But we are pretty good and both trust each other, which is vital.'
The pair auditioned on Monday. If they were successful in their 15-minute showcase they will perform in front of 1,800 people.
They are up against 15 other acts but the excitement is hard to contain for Mike.
He said: 'Our act is entertaining and unique and we work hard at it. Winning this would be a dream come true.'
