SCORES of mourners packed a Northwich church on Monday to pay tribute to teenager Michael Igoe who tragically drowned in the River Weaver after a night out in town.

Mourners filled St Wilfrid’s RC Church in Witton Street to remember Michael’s life.

His sister Ann-Marie told the congregation she hoped her brother would be a “guardian angel” to the rest of the family.

Michael, worked for his family’s construction firm.

Until last summer Michael, of Royal Gardens, Davenham, had been a pupil of St Nicholas High School where he was well-liked and popular. Prayers were held for him at the school last week.

Michael was last seen leaving the Amber Lounge on Northwich High Street at 1am.

A statement by the family said: “So the police can to piece together the last moments of Michael’s life, we would urge members of the public who may have seen Michael after midnight to contact them with any information they might have.”

St Nicholas headteacher Gerard Boyle said Michael left after his GCSEs and had been liked by everyone who had come into contact with him.
