CHRONICLE readers have already been responding to a story in today's edition about £25,000 worth of safety 'improvements' implemented by the council at the Weaver roundabout on the A54 at the bottom of Wharton Hill.
One caller said: "I can understand where Mr Samways is coming from. The arrows going down High Street have been altered, the arrows off Weaver Street have been altered, and the arrows off the Station Road bypass have been altered.
But the arrows going down Wharton Hill still tell people to go the wrong way round the roundabout. I can’t understand why they’ve spent £25,000 and left one arrow wrong, which is one of the main causes of all the accidents there."
But Vernon Goodwin, 80, of Kingsley Walk, disagreed. He said: "I’ve been driving in Winsford since 1964, I was a bus driver for many years, and I remember how Wharton roundabout used to be. It used to be dangerous, but it’s a lot better now. The man in his story says he’s confused - just follow the road markings!"
