UEFA Cup winner Christian Gyan has joined Wrexham on trial in the hope of earning a contract with the Blue Square Premier club.
The 30-year old former Ghana international spent the bulk of his career in Dutch football and was a member of Feyenoord’s Uefa Cup-winning team in 2002.
Gyan, who can play in midfield and in defence, recently completed a six-month spell in Finland with TPS Turku and is one of several trialists currently with the Dragons as manager Dean Saunders considers how best to strengthen his squad during this month’s transfer window.
Saunders admitted he was unlikely to make any new signings this week, but has included Gyan in the squad of players who are heading to Basingstoke today before moving on to Devon following tonight’s FA Trophy clash to prepare for Friday night’s league game at Torquay United.
Racecourse assistant manager Terry Darracott, meanwhile, confirmed that York City, now managed by his Dragons predecessor Martin Foyle, have inquired about taking midfield player Simon Brown – who is surplus to requirements at Wrexham – on loan.
