YOUNGSTERS at Whitby Heath Primary School had a special visit from a children’s author to mark the opening of their newly-refurbished library.

David Martin, otherwise known as ‘Dunkle Deed’, officially cut the ribbon to unveil the new-look £5,000 renovated library which features special junior librarian software that allows children to write reviews of books that can then be published on the library system for others to read.

It also tracks the different genres of books to encourage a wider spread of coverage and features more books that encourage boys to read.

Dunkle Deed, whose popular series The Eenimals, have proved a big hit with youngsters, chatted to pupils and spoke about his writing journey.

A school spokesperson said: “We were impressed with Deed's friendly and professional manner and the fact nothing was too much trouble.

“The children were delighted and enthralled by all Deed had to say – he inspired the children and left them with a very positive message.

“He left a legacy of many budding-authors when he left.”
